"Hey, let's go to this workshop."

"I'll register if you will, Onward Wild Turkeys!"

During this workshop, you’ll learn how to raise your stakes by writing from the Imaginative Storm to the Creative Form. You’ll start with this question: “What is it inside your imagination that keeps surprising you at odd moments?” You’ll work with the creative relationship that exists between imagination and form, your right-brain, your left-brain. Powerful writing emerges when you put these two together. You’ll generate new work cued by Imaginative Storm writing prompts, movement, and improvisational exercises. We’ll explore traditional poems as writing prompts such as “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, “Recuerdo" by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and “Fern Hill” by Dylan Thomas. You’ll have plenty of chances to read your new work out loud to the group. Plus, you’ll work with several basic performance tips which will give a stronger sense o f how to performance-read your work, with confidence and ease, in public spaces. Click HERE to Register

Memorization is a pleasure you can enjoy for a lifetime. During our time together, you'll be working with the idea that memorization happens first in your heart before it moves to your brain. You'll learn memorization strategies like how to:

• Move while you memorize; your body is your instrument.
• Train your heart to remember.
• Take all the time you need.
• Visualize and vocalize.
• Work with prompts.
• Create imaginative circumstances around your text.
• Paraphrase your story lines.
• Use props and call for lines.
• Add memorized text into your performance-reading appearances.
• Learn by heart while waiting in the check-out line.

When you learn something by heart, you never forget it. That's why you remember your nursery rhymes, the lines of poetry you learned in the tenth grade, and the address where you live, that place you call home.

Join us for this highly participatory Learn by Heart Memorization Workshop. Before you go, here's a short poem you can learn by heart right now: "On the Antiquity of Fleas:” Adam had em. See you in the workshop. Click HERE to Register
